I live a few blocks away from a 2-year women’s university. Unlike most universities, everyone seems to start and end school at the same time. If I leave my apartment at the right time, I walk against a tidal wave of girls going to school, if I come home at the right time I walk against the same tidal wave of girls going back to the station. Today I came home at just the right time, but I wasn’t alone.
There was an old man, probably no younger then 70 walking in the same direction. Surrounded by 18-20 year old women, he couldn’t control himself and tried his best to strike up a conversation with every lovely lady he saw.
Beyond being a creepy old man, I’m sure the fact that he was smoking and coughing up a lung didn’t help to make him attractive. Perhaps he should take that cigarette out of his nose!
Yea, that’s right. A 70 something year old man coughing up a lung trying to work his magic on the fairer sex all with a cigarette hanging out of his nose.
I wanted to stare, but I figured he’d cause a scene so I just went on.

I’ve decided to change the Foto Friday category to Foto (Every Other) Friday. I’ve been pretty busy with school and haven’t had much time to go out taking pictures. This presents the problem of me potentially running out of pictures to post, so I think I should control the issue before it becomes a problem. Also, being busy with school means that I haven’t been witting much in this blog. As a result there’s sometimes only one regular post during the week and the overall balance of pictures and works isn’t taken.

和式トイレの数を減らしてもよくない？昨日とあるデパートでトイレ行きたくなったら各フロアの化粧室に和式と洋式トイレ一台ずつ置かれてた。一階から五階までどれも人は洋式トイレに入ってて和式は空いてた。違うデパートに行っても同じだった。
日本の｢和｣を大切にして和式トイレ設置してるだろうが、人は使わないのに置くのはムダなんじゃないの？

今『たけしの日本教育白書２００６』を見て思ったこと。
戦争が終わってから、アメリカから「自由」や「平等」という概念が日本に入ってきたと言われているが、入ってきたのはアメリカ並みのではない。日本では「自由」や「平等」の意味は「好き勝手し放題」や「やり放題」となっているようだが、本来の意味は決してそうでない。本来の意味は「あなただけが１００％プラスαの責任を持つからしっかりしろ！後でくちゃくちゃ言ったってオレ知らないよ」ということなのだ。
『国家の品格』を書いた藤原正彦の気持ちがよくわかる。
日本は世界で唯一の「情緒と形の文明」である。国際化という名のアメリカ化に踊らされてきた日本人は、この誇るべき「国柄」を長らく忘れてきた。「論理」と「合理性」頼みの「改革」では、社会の荒廃を食い止めることはできない。いま日本に必要なのは、論理よりも情緒、英語よりも国語、民主主義よりも武士道精神であり、「国家の品格」を取り戻すことである。すべての日本人に誇りと自信を与える画期的提言。
しかし問題は、日本におけるアメリカは本当のアメリカのではなく、日本独特、日本以外存在もしない「アメリカ」なのだ。だったら大日本帝国の方がよっぽどマシだと思う。すくなくともそのとき今たけしさんの番組に出ているようなことをあり得なかった。
