Taxi Ride Home

January1

I received a small xacti video camera as a gift from an old boss at the company year-end party.

As a trial, here is my taxi ride home from work, Shibuya to Shinjuku through downtown Tokyo.

How To Replace Facebook/Twitter/Flickr etc… ???

June21

This is one of the many reasons I want to find a way to replace all my various social networking sites with just this WordPress install on this domain.

Drug wars, zombie bitting, all these BS apps are all the more reason to get away from Facebook.

Drug wars, zombie bitting, all these BS apps are all the more reason to get away from Facebook.

There is one major hurdle that I haven’t figured out how to clear just yet. I want to be able to make different posts available to different users, and put them in groups.

For example:

  • Everyone
  • Friends
  • Family
  • Guest
  • I want to be able to select either the group ‘friends’ and have everyone in that group be able to see the post, or select ‘Billy’, someone who is in the group ‘friends’ and only have Billy be able to see the post. ‘Everyone’ would go to everyone who has an account, and ‘guest’ would go to anyone who isn’t logged in.

Naturally I would just use the regular WordPress account system.

But in all reality, this may work better with other CMSs than WordPress, like ExpressionEngine or Drupal, or even MovableType.

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions for doing such a thing?

I was poking around on Flickr and found this beautiful piece of work, that was being misrepresented, most likely through no fault of the original poster. Read the rest of this entry »

    AirPort Extreme/Time Capsule + MobileMe = FINALLY!

    April24

Finally, this has been something I’ve been wanting for a long time.

MobileMe News: Your Personal File Server Wherever You Go

timecapsule2Recent updates to Apple’s Airport firmware enable you to use Back to My Mac to remotely access files stored on Time Capsule (or a hard disk attached to AirPort Extreme with 802.11n) from a Mac running OS X Leopard. The device’s disk will appear on your Mac in the Shared section of the Finder sidebar when you’re connected to the internet, and you can treat it as a personal remote file server, dragging files to and from it as needed.

To set up a device, Open AirPort Utility on your Mac, click Manual Setup, then click Advanced in the toolbar and select MobileMe. Enter your MobileMe member name and password and click update. For more detailed instructions download the Back to My Mac User’s Guide

Basically now I can buy a AirPort Extreme, put my MobileMe login information in and have it show up in the sidebar of my Finder window just like it was a computer on the local network. Gone are the days of having to make a record of your IP address before you leave in the morning, using a 3rd party dynamic DNS service or worrying about your provider’s router’s annoying firewall. I can only dream that I could someone have it share a Network HD in the same way, then I can get this r5massive 4Tb drive for all my file storage and access it from anywhere. I guess for my purposes USB 2.0 is fast enough since all the data of the type I’d want to put on the external drive is already on an external USB 2.0 HD, but it would have been nice to utilize my 1000mbit internal network in combination with my 1000mbit Fiber connection.

This was a good chuckle from the BBC.
